Salomon Simhon, born into the vibrant artistic world of Bogotá, Colombia, carries a fascinating legacy: he is the son of renowned art dealer Eleonora Perea and acclaimed illusionist and magician José Simhon. In 2023, Salomon directed the global campaign for Air Jordan and J Balvin’sn early age.
Salomon’s first foray into filmmaking came during his high school years, when he created his debut short film Who Am I, starring members of his own family. After a brief stint studying Philosophy at Universidad de Los Andes in 2002, Salomon’s passion for cinema took over, leading him to drop out and enroll in the Black Maria Film School. There, he directed two more short films: Faith and Sinfónica.
Eager to expand his horizons, Salomon moved to Sydney, Australia, in 2004. While studying at the Academy of Photogenic Arts Film School, he created Smile, a dramatic short film that was nominated at the prestigious L.A. Short Film Festival, held at the legendary Egyptian Theatre.
Salomon returned to Bogotá in 2006, where he enriched his portfolio with music videos and commercials for major brands like Toyota, Pepsi, Axe, Renault, and Unilever. His unique vision and storytelling style quickly gained recognition and awards.
In 2011, a new adventure took him to Beijing, China, where he directed commercials for Ennova. A year later, he expanded his international experience even further, working on major campaigns in Mexico City.
Despite his global trajectory, his bond with home remained strong. Salomon returned to Bogotá to open the city’s first independent cinema, *Cine Tonalá*, a vibrant cultural hub where film and art intersect. Around the same time, he was hired by Dynamo Productions to direct the feature film Detective Marañón.
This opportunity led to collaborations with top-tier artists such as Nicky Jam, J Balvin, Shaggy, Karol G, Sech, and Chocquibtown. Salomon’s aesthetic brilliance and storytelling talent earned him the Best Music Video Award at the Shock Awards for two consecutive years.
In 2020, he made his television debut directing three episodes of the series MALAYERBA for the platforms Pantaya and Starz, showcasing his versatility and continuing his evolution as a distinguished filmmaker. He is currently working on three feature films: La Cuadra, Lourdes, and Vegetal.
In 2023, Salomon directed the global campaign for Air Jordan and J Balvin’s new collection, as well as the 10-year anniversary of League of Legends for Riot Games.
